Did you wake up this morning with the goal to be mediocre? I didn't think so... Did you wake up this morning with the mindset that you were going to absolutely crush your day? Yeah, I didn't think so on that one either... Most of the population wakes up every single day of their lives with absolutely no goal except to get through the next 16 hours... No joy, no anticipation for a good day, no hope... I guess perhaps next week, you will start to challenge that ideal, maybe next month, maybe next year... No? Maybe in your next life? Oh wait, you only have one of those...
Come on now... Let's think this through together...
Up. Work. Home. Television. Sleep. Repeat five times. Weekends are for sleeping in... Your only hope is to get to that weekend, get to that next vacation so you can do what you want. So every week of your life you look past five days so you can get to the weekend so you can sleep in and dread Monday... Then you spend 11 1/2 months planning the two weeks so you can sleep in more... So you can get "rested up" to tackle the next 11 1/2 months until the next one...
Yikes... Perhaps you need to wake up from your need to get "rested up" to tackle life... You have heard the saying that if you "keep doing what you're doing, you're going to keep getting what you are getting..." As I have always said, and I say it with all sincerity and honestly... If you are content with your life, please continue your path. I have absolutely no malice towards the person who has no drive to better themselves. Perhaps I have a disease that doesn't let me rest, maybe a mental illness, I don't know, but what I do know is that I cannot imagine living without this insane drive to experience life as fully as I can, no matter the cost, no matter the pain...
For the rest of you, including those on the fence and those who have made the decision to change, today I want you to make that choice to live very differently. I want you to live with intention. It is so easy to settle into the rut of mediocrity. Do you know what I mean? It’s the place you live to just get by. It’s the patterns where we just repeat the same actions day in and out. Everyday feels like the movie Groundhog Day; same hustle, same going through the motions, same feelings of anxiety and lack of fulfillment. Most of those kind of days are an endless loop of “putting out the hottest fire.” I’m asking you to reach for the next rung, step up to the next level. Fuck that loop, jump off the hamster wheel, become aware that you deserve better, you are capable of better, you are better than mediocre.
Now, how does this work? How do I wake up from my lethargy? The truth is, it takes more than just showing up. Success and fulfillment require intention.
Intention is to create on purpose. Intention is to live with purpose.
Are you ready to stop being overwhelmed and living in mediocrity? Start by being more intentional. Change starts with being intentional from moment to moment. Intentional moments lead to intentional days which leads to intentional (and more fulfilled) living. Whatever it is you do today, ask yourself this very important question:
“What is my intention?”
Growth requires doing something different and it cannot happen without intention.
Don’t let today just be a repeat of yesterday. Be intentional with your energy. Be intentional with your life.
I know you are asking the question, “How the fuck do I live more intentionally?”
Glad you asked…
1. A mantra… Yes, you need a mantra… You can stop thinking that a mantra is strictly for religious purposes or for yoga... A mantra is used for all sorts of things.. Think of it like you're headed for an intersection and you're looking at at the light repeating "don't change, don't change, don't change..." That's the very idea of a mantra... You are simply vocalizing a desire...Every day, you need to remind yourself to live intentionally. Tune out all those negative thoughts and create a positive mantra to repeat until you’re determined to accomplish what you’re setting out to do. Your words have power. They have the power to change your mood in a matter of seconds. The ways we communicate with ourselves within our inner dialogue and with others through conversation have the power to ultimately shape our lives. Try these mantras for a more intentional life:
A. “Today I will live less out of habit and more out of intent.”
B. “Nobody finishes well by accident, today I will be intentional in my successes.”
C. “Today I will create my life on purpose.”
2. Share your intentions with a friend or family member. Sharing what you want with someone else will help keep you focused, encourage you to become extra clear on your ambitions, and hold you accountable to your goals no matter the timeframe.
3. Create a ritual. Incorporate your intentions in your existing morning routine. If you like to sit down, read the news, and sip your coffee, make some time to state your intentions out loud while the coffee is brewing, or while you’re pouring your cup. It could be a mantra, or if you are uncomfortable with calling it a mantra, even a few sentences about the kind of life you want and see yourself having and make sure you say it with conviction.
4. Practice gratitude. Focus on what you do have and what you’re grateful for this moment. Now here’s the unconventional part; practice gratitude for that thing you deeply desire because by repeatedly stating your intention and focusing on what you want, or how you want your life to be, you’re working towards your goal. You are being thankful for future success!
5. Remind yourself daily. The best way to truly set an intention is to be firm with yourself about not forgetting it. Repetition is your best friend here. Every morning (and throughout the day) set your intentions and keep focused.
It’s time to define your purpose and discover what’s missing in your life, what drives you, what’s been holding you back, what makes you powerful and what’s possible for your life. Living with intent can help you discover your best self…
So now that you have some guidelines, no excuses… Wake up and get to work!
The 90 Day Life Change Challenge Update… This morning I had one of those epiphanies that I love so much... All my life I have believed that "trying" is bullshit and doing is all there is when you want to succeed but today I was looking at my challenge list and saw that I had done 100% of every aspect for the entire week and never thought about it at all... I had simply done it... Now mind you, I even added a 16th facet to my list this week when my co-worker accepted my 5000 squats / 1000 push-ups challenge so my day has expanded and the struggle to get it all done wasn't an issue. That got me to thinking that there really is no "try" when you truly want something, there is only do it... Good lesson to encode... When we say, "I will try" or "I am trying" that leaves us open to failure... We accept when we fail because we were just "trying" but when we commit, there is only getting it done... I am committed to this 90 Day Life Change Challenge and I will not fail because I will not open myself up for the possibility of failure. My body is rebelling, my mind is rebelling and I stand defiant against both. My resolve is strong and my will is intact. I love this shit... I "intend" to finish... No excuses, no other possibilities exist. I need a t-shirt with that sentiment printed on it... Hey... Maybe I will start a motivational t-shirt company... hmmm... Maybe...
I love you like Kanye West loves Kanye West… See you all tomorrow and even looking forward to it! In the mean time, BE INTENTIONAL!!!!
